JESUS ME

Where did she learn the virago stance;
hands on hips, face like thunder?
‘I’m the boss in this house,’
three years of age.
Playing with her Dad on the floor:
‘Jesus me,’ she exclaimed.
‘You mustn’t say that Tegan.’
‘Is that a bad word, Daddy?’
‘No, but we don’t say it.’
With indignant tone
to mitigate the gravity
of her transgression:
‘Well I only said it to myself.’
